Recognising that the development of Information Technology provides more opportunities for people with disabilities, SPD started basic training in web designing for five of its beneficiaries with physical disabilities in August 2002. The hope behind this pilot project was to create job opportunities for those who, because of the severity of their disabilities, were unable to find suitable employment within the open market.
The Society first embarked on identifying suitable candidates with the interest in and ability to excel in the field. Having selected five tetraplegic members and matching them with the appropriate assistive devices to perform the job, the training then commenced. The course required the team to undergo a stringent course stretching over 50 hours to arm them with the right know-how in order to bring their talents to the forefront.
The services currently being offered by the web design team include web page creation, maintenance of existing websites, hosting of websites, registration of domain names, and creation of electronic greeting cards. Look on to find out more on the competitive prices for these services.
