Sheltered Workshop
The Sheltered Workshop provides employment and vocational training through sub-contract work like packaging, letter-shopping, tagging of products and the like, where trainees can earn an allowance as they work. Through the sub-contract jobs with various organisations, trainees have the opportunity to work on site at the client company in a real work environment, thus improving their future employment prospects.
The Sheltered Workshop aims to give PWDs:
- Community integration and participation
- Increased self esteem and self worth
- Pre-employment preparation and training
Training Schedule:
- Full day 8.00am to 5.30pm
- Monday to Friday
Admission Criteria
To qualify for the Vocational Training Programme, applicants must
- be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
- have a permanent disability (including physical/developmental/visual/hearing impairment)
- be 16 years of age or above
- be able to attend to individual’s basic activities of daily living
- have received primary education*
- be conversant in English with basic literacy*
* Required for admission into ITAP only
Eligible applicants will be assessed for suitability to attend vocational training. The Vocational Training Programme is free for all eligible applicants.
Transport
For those who have difficulty using public transport, SPD provides affordable and reliable transportation service with its fleet of specially-adapted vehicles. This service is open to beneficiaries coming to and from the SPD Ability Centre and their homes. Fees are chargeable but are subsidised depending on income level.
