Sale of terrarium on Giving Tuesday to raise funds for SPD
One of the founding partners of the Giving Tuesday or #GivingTuesdaySG movement in Singapore, NTUC Income gathered more than 800 staff to volunteer 500 hours creating terrariums to raise $20,000 for SPD.
The staff devoted their lunch and after-work hours for the “Give a Terrarium” project two weeks prior to Singapore’s first #GivingTuesdaySG which falls on 3 December. The result was 1,000 terrariums or small enclosures housing living plants which went on public sale for $20 each at the five NTUC Income’s branches on Giving Tuesday.
“We would like to thank NTUC Income and its staff for dedicating time and effort to support people with disabilities in conjunction with the nation’s first #GivingTuesdaySG. Every terrarium is customised and reflects people with disabilities as unique individuals just like anyone else. They have their strengths and abilities too. Through the efforts of partners like NTUC Income, their potential can be fully maximised,” said Mr Abhimanyau Pal, Executive Director, SPD.
NTUC Income through OrangeAid, the insurer’s corporate social responsibility flagship initiative, has given a grant of $200,000 to SPD this year. The money goes into funding the NTUC Income OrangeAid-SPD Continuing Therapy Programme for a year so that therapy services are available to support those under 16 years diagnosed with mild to severe disabilities.
