SPD at the National Occupational Therapy Conference 2015

Ng Shixian (above, second from right) is an occupational therapist (OT) who works with stroke survivors and those with spinal cord injuries in the SPD Transition Programme for Employment to help them return to the workforce. Nirmalayga is another OT at SPD but she works with children in the early intervention programme to help them maximise their developmental potential.

Shixian and Nirmalayga (below, second from left) were just two of several OTs from SPD who participated and shared their experience and knowledge through various engagements during the annual National Occupational Therapy Conference that took place on 10 October.

Shixian was part of an inter-organisational team who highlighted the role of occupational therapists during work rehabilitation at a pre-conference workshop while Nirmalayga shared a case study in a poster presentation to demonstrate the effectiveness of an air pressure vest on a child with autism.

Focusing on the conference’s theme “Celebrating Diversity, Advancing in Unity”, our Executive Director, Mr Abhimanyau Pal, spoke on embracing diversity so that the needs of people with special needs can be better met.

SPD also hosted conference participants at the SPD Ability Centre on 8 October where they toured our facility to have a better understanding of our programmes and services.

We are happy to be part of this annual event and look forward to contributing more in a professional level the next round.
