SPD Beneficiaries Perform at Beautiful Mind Music Academy’s Concert
SPD’s beneficiaries Teo Pei Shan and Samuel Lim were among the young performers at the Beautiful Mind Music Academy’s (BMMA) inaugural concert staged at the Korean Church in Singapore on 9 May.
The audience of close to 400 included representatives of the Korean community such as Ms Jang Yeunju, Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister Counsellor of Korean Embassy in Singapore, Mr Kim Chang Joon, a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives and member of National Economic Advisory Council of Korea, as well as Mr Lee Hyun Kyung, Chairman of Korean Chamber of Commerce in Singapore.
The concert brought together seven BMMA students with disabilities who performed solo as well as with their teachers and the Beautiful Mind Charity Ensemble. Pei Shan and Samuel, who performed on the piano that evening, were two SPD beneficiaries selected for BMMA’s music programme which offers free music training and activities to help children and youth with special needs develop their artistic talents.
SPD’s President Ms Chia Yong Yong, who was invited to give a short address at the start of the concert, said: “We congratulate the Academy for what it has achieved in such a short time. More than just teaching music, it has helped to build confidence, courage and resilience in its students, even as it nurtures their talents.”
The concert was a great success and many in the audience were visibly moved and inspired by these young talents who showed that disability is no barrier to their dreams.
We congratulate Beautiful Minds Charity and all performers on a job well done and look forward to coming ones in the near future.
