Rehabilitation

Volunteers are needed to provide support to the therapists at the Rehabilitation Centre. Volunteers are also needed in the Assistive Technology R&D project. This pilot project, initiated by the ATC, involves adapting the home environment, computer devices, toys and card games to meet the needs of people with physical disabilities, as well as modifying mobility aids to make them more user-friendly.

Rehabilitation Service Support

Volunteers provide support to the therapists at the Rehabilitation Centre.

How you can help

Volunteers help the beneficiaries rehabilitate and improve in their physical disabilities.

Commitment

A group of four to six volunteers who can commit their time weekly on a regular basis for at least six months is needed. Sessions take place either on Mondays or Wednesdays, from 10 am to 12 pm.

Criteria

A regular group of volunteers is a must in this programme due to the specialized training required. Volunteers will be attached to a therapist who would provide training, guidance and advice to volunteers should they encounter problems in the course of their voluntary work.

Assistive Technology Research & Development Project

This pilot project initiated by the Assistive Technology Centre (ATC) involves adapting the home environment, computer devices, toys and card games to meet the needs of people with physical disabilities, as well as modifying mobility aids to make them more user-friendly.

How you can help

Volunteers help to find solutions to help those with severe physical disabilities and enable them to overcome their limitations in daily living.

Commitment

A project team of at least six committed volunteers is required for each project to ensure that the device is properly installed and used by the beneficiary. The team may meet outside office hours at their convenience.

Criteria

Volunteers should be familiar with electrical engineering design and be able to adapt special switches for electrical appliances. They should also be familiar with computer hardware to help adapt computer keyboards and mouse with special switches.

Those good at metal and carpentry work would be especially helpful in the making of special supports and splints.
