10 ideas for Valentine’s Day

With so many ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day, we share these 10 simple ideas which can make the day that bit more special.

For some, Valentine’s Day can be a flurry of plans and logistical arrangements for their other half. For others, it is a day to celebrate love for family and friends. With so many ways to celebrate it, we share these 10 simple ideas which can make the day that bit more special.

1. Tell them that you appreciate them

The little things we do daily may be done out of love, but nothing really beats expressing your appreciation verbally, like how UNLABEL 2022 poster girl Jean did so for her husband Jake which made him giggle.

2. Don’t text, call

We are so used to messaging that we seldom call anymore, which is a shame since the voice reflects better the sincerity and concern. It’s honestly plain nice to hear someone’s voice. So drop a call during lunch or when work ends, like how SPD Artisan Collab master craftsman Boon Leong calls his wife almost every day during his breaks.

3. Go on a staycation or a short getaway

Get away for the day, a holiday without too much fuss. Where necessary, here are some tips for a relaxing staycation with a loved one who requires wheelchair accommodations.

4. Create something

Handmade items are usually the ones that we keep for a very long time as they are unique and simply up there in sentimental value. It could be in the form of a nicely-sculptured pendant, or a card expressing your appreciation.

5. Complete a puzzle or craftwork together

Not keen on movies or going out? Try bonding over jigsaw puzzles or some craftwork, like how Mdm Cynthia and her son Ignatius do over  diamond art. It’s a great way to spend time together.

6. Exercise together

Prefer the sun and the outdoors? Sweat it out together over a hike, walk or run. It’s a good start to training for our SPD Ability Walk & Run coming up in the later part of the year.

7. Gift a gift for a good cause

9. Create a photo or keepsake book

Instead of going digital, how about pasting instaxs, drawing and writing your favourite memories in these beautiful journals? They can also reminisce these memorable moments when flipping through the pages years later.

8. Celebrate with small acts of kindness

Don’t limit the love to just people around you, share it with others too. Small acts like helping someone cross the road or curating care packs for others bring sunshine to the recipients’ lives, and makes the world a better place. You can also take this opportunity to show your support to a cause or charity you believe in.

10. Love yourself

When we take care of ourselves, we build resilience to face challenges, and can feel more empowered to take care of others. Find time to love ourselves this Valentine’s Day; be it that coffee treat, time alone or buying ourselves our favourite flower. You are worth it!

We hope you find this list useful. Here’s wishing everyone a happy Valentine’s Day!
