Nestled in a corner of Tiong Bahru, one of Singapore’s oldest housing estate, is a five-storey building that is home to SPD for almost 50 years. Known to its partners and the clients whom it supports, SPD may still be a stranger to many, even those in its community. Hence, SPD took the opportunity to engage the neighbourhood and shared with them services that it offers to people with disabilities at the recent launch of the Tiong Bahru Heritage Trail.

Held at the Tiong Bahru Community Centre on 14 April, the event was graced by the Senior Minister of State of Law and Education, Ms Indranee Thurai Rajah who is also the Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC.

Notebooks and photo frames that were handmade by people with disabilities from the SPD Production Workshop were well-received by the carnival-goers. These lifestyle gifts were great conversation starters and demonstrated the abilities and skills of the disabled craftsmen at SPD.

The event also provided a platform for SPD to recruit individuals who identified with its causes.
