Outdoor cooking will make its debut in a televised charity show in the SPD Charity Show 2017 《SPD 真情无障爱》. The artistes and segments to the upcoming SPD’s sixth televised charity show since 2007 were introduced in a media conference held at the SPD Ability Centre on 27 February. In the event, it was revealed that Singapore’s celebrity chefs Eric Teo, Heman Tan, Charlie Tham and Pung Lu Tin would be displaying their cooking prowess in order to raise funds for people with disabilities.

The special outdoor segment will be held at NEX Shopping Mall’s Level 1 Atrium and hosted by Lee Teng. The locally renowned chefs will be whipping up dessert and western, local and Chinese cuisines on-site and shoppers will be encouraged to make a donation for a taste of the food cooked by the chefs. The first three home viewers with a $1,000 donation will also have the dishes delivered to their home by Mediacorp celebrities.

The show is part of SPD’s 10-week-long “Breaking Barriers” public education campaign aimed at promoting inclusion and better understanding of people with disabilities. The audience can look forward once again to signature performances pairing SPD’s beneficiaries with disabilities with local and foreign artistes to signify inclusion and integration.

Themed “Where Dreams Inspire” 《梦鼓舞》, the show will also feature clients who seek to inspire all with their stories of struggles, triumphs and the motivation that keeps them striving for their dreams.

The SPD Charity Show 2017 will be hosted by Taiwanese television personality Mickey Huang and popular television host Quan Yi Fong. The line-up of local artistes includes Tay Ping Hui, Xiang Yun, Chen Han Wei, Elvin Ng, Romeo Tan, Felicia Chin, Terence Cao and many more. Evergreen Hong Kong pop group, The Grasshoppers, veteran Hokkien singer and winner of the 27th Golden Melody Best Female Hokkien Singer Award, Huang Yi Ling, and Taiwanese Mandopop singer-songwriter, rapper, actor and entrepreneur, Wilbur Pan, will be part of the exciting line-up of celebrities this year.

“The support of the community will enable SPD to provide programmes and services to help over 5,000 people with disabilities and their families. Through the show, we hope to raise $3.8 million and to promote inclusion and greater understanding and acceptance in the community for people with disabilities. We hope the hard work and dedication that the artistes and beneficiaries put into the Show will move the audience to donate generously,”

said Ms Chia Yong Yong, President, SPD.
