It was an evening to remember as the much-lauded Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) performed a fusion of traditional Chinese music pieces with popular Broadway and Western classical crossover numbers under the baton of world-renowned music director Maestro Tsung Yeh at SPD’s ‘Count Me In’ Charity Concert on 18 November at the Capitol Theatre.

The fundraising event also featured young vocalist Lauren Yeo, who held her own sold-out solo concert at the Esplanade at the age of 9 and has performed in Carnegie Hall, and SCO’s accomplished multi-award-winning musicians Tan Man Man on the erhu and Zhong Zhi Yue on the sheng, as well as SPD’s Youth Aspiration Award recipient Samuel Lim who performed solo on the guzheng.

Happy to be part of this fundraiser, Sherie Loh, sales manager for Getronics Solutions, was all praise.

“This is one of the most successful concerts and I am honoured to be part of it. It allowed everyone to gather together with the same goal.”

Assistant brand director of long-time partner Maxi-Cash Group, Ms Magdalene Eng, who brought her mother along to the event, said, “We enjoyed ourselves tremendously. The concert was very well put together by SPD and the volunteers. We had a fabulous night re-acquainting with the delightful Singapore Chinese Orchestra led by a wonderful maestro. I’m looking forward to more of such fundraising concerts in the future.”

The charity concert, with DBS as the main sponsor, was graced by Guest-of-Honour Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and raised over $290,000 for SPD’s programmes and services which supports more than 5,000 people with physical, sensory and learning disabilities.
