What made you switch from the private sector to SPD Therapy Hub?
I first heard about the SPD Therapy Hub from my friends who work there. I thought the concept is unique as it offers so much more opportunities to work in different clinical settings. This could really help me grow professionally on many different levels. I was very intrigued and went on to find out more.
I would describe myself as driven. I am eager to learn more and would constantly look to improve myself. Having worked previously in the private sector, I found myself drawn to how established the SPD Therapy Hub is. The exposure to not just one specific programme sets it apart for me as this is uncommon in most other organisations, private or in community settings.
Which programmes have you been on so far?
I have only been at SPD for two years, and during this period, I have worked in numerous clinical settings including supporting children with developmental delays in pre-schools, special education schools as well as in our centre-based EIPIC programme. I was also supporting children with hearing loss in a mainstream primary school which is quite niche. Now, I get to supervise new therapists who have just joined the sector.
How else has SPD Therapy Hub’s model helped in your career so far?
Being in a team as large as SPD Therapy Hub, there are naturally more professionals, in the same or different disciplines. When I work with them, I get to see things from different perspectives, which widens my horizons even more. Although I’m a fully registered and relatively experienced therapist of six years, I’m not left alone to manage cases on my own. There will always be support from my peers and the more experienced seniors if I need help. I am also exposed to work other than clinical caseloads. There are opportunities to be involved in pioneering new programmes or participating in work groups or mentoring programmes.
