e-Filing for taxi drivers 11 March 2010

11 March 2010 – People with disabilities from the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) will once again be providing free income tax e-filing service for taxi drivers.

Having begun in 2004, the service has been offered yearly and has since seen over 4,000 e-files done so far. It was first mooted as a way to show appreciation to taxi drivers for their invaluable support in the transportation of people with physical disabilities. Because of their physical limitations, taxis are often the only means of transport for many people with physical disabilities, providing door-to-door convenience for them to live life as fully as possible. While making the filing of their income tax easier for taxi drivers, it also gives the e-filers a way to contribute in the community.

“It is difficult for me to get around on the bus and MRT so I take taxis to go out. I met a lot of very supportive drivers and by helping them to e-file their income tax returns, I can repay them for their kindness,” said 31-year-old Benson Tiew who has spinal cord injury and is a wheelchair-user.

The service is available from 10am to 12pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm, Mondays to Fridays from 15 March to 16 April, at the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) at No. 2 Peng Nguan Street, SPD Ability Centre. The deadline for filing of income tax returns is 18 April 2010. The following documents are required for the e-filing:

  • SingPass Password/IRAS Pin
  • Statement of Taxi Rental for the year 2009
  • Vocational Taxi Licence/Driving Licence
  • Dependents’ Birth Certificates/NRICs if making claim for the first time
  • Tax Return Form B, if any
  • Any other relevant documents necessary for the tax filing purpose
