Happy chatter and joyful laughter filled the whole SPD Ability Centre on 18 March as sing-along sessions and games were organised for close to 50 children and their caregivers from our early intervention programme as part of the annual Healthy Lifestyle and Sports Day. The activities including the telematches and races that morning created a special bond between the caregivers and their charges.

Volunteers from IBM Singapore Pte Ltd also pitched in to help our teachers in the event. IBM software engineer Lee Cheng Yi was really happy at joining in in this event and called the experience a real eye-opener. “The children are just so ‘real’ and engaged. I realised that whatever they felt, they would express. Whatever they wanted, they would work towards it. They had little self-limiting beliefs as compared to the seniors I usually help. And it is really nice to see them just being themselves and having fun. Thank you very much for this volunteering opportunity and I hope we get to do this again!”
