SUMMARY:Augmentative and Alternative Communication Workshop: ‘How to Repr
 esent Language with Pictures - Teaching Language to Emergent Communicators
 ’
DESCRIPTION:Organised by the Specialised Assistive Technology Centre\, the 
 AAC workshop targets those who work with people with severe language impai
 rments such as teachers\, therapists\, training officers and interested ca
 regivers. It aims to provide the tools to enable participants to empower t
 he disabled person and those who are at the early stage of communication t
 o communicate and maximize their language potential\, through the use of p
 icture representation and symbols.\n\nThrough an interactive session\, par
 ticipants will be also introduced to Minspeak\, a powerful language repres
 entation technique that has empowered communication for many around the wo
 rld.\n\nAbout the trainer:\n\nBruce R. Baker is President of Semantic Comp
 action Systems\, and Adjunct Associate Professor at University of Pittsbur
 gh\, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. He has designed\, indiv
 idually and in a team\, a wide range of individual systems to empower peop
 le with severe language impairments to speak.\n\nA recipient of many disti
 nguished awards from the field of Assistive Technology and Augmentative an
 d Alternative Communication\, he is regularly invited to speak at internat
 ional societies as keynote speaker in Europe\, Canada and USA.\n\nCourse F
