We are happy to share that SPD are recipients of two Star, 22 Gold and 17 Silver Awards at the Singapore Health Quality Service Awards (SHQSA) on 8 February.

Organised by the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre, the SHQSA honours outstanding healthcare professionals who have delivered quality care and excellent service. The hybrid ceremony was held at the Singapore General Hospital Campus with Health Minister Ong Ye Kung as the guest of honour.

Clara Loh (in black top in photo above), Assistant Manager at SPD Day Activity Centre (DAC), was one of the recipients of the Star award this year. As SPD’s DAC is one of the designated centres to remain open during the Circuit Breaker period, Clara worked closely with the DAC team to ensure that the centre was ready to remain operational. She worked tirelessly to ensure that the requisite logistical considerations were prepared, from manpower, transport, safe distancing, to working closely with caregivers to communicate and coordinate information. As not all clients were able to return due to safe distancing measures, plans were made to provide remote support for caregivers and clients over this period.

“Clara demonstrated resilience and fortitude, harnessing the collective strengths of the team under her, as well as engaging the other departments in SPD to provide the support needed for the clients, caregivers and staff”, said Kam Jin Chieh, Senior Assistant Director, Rehabilitation and Care.

Another Star award recipient is Debbie Chow, Senior Assistant Director for Service Quality. As one of the co-leads of SPD’s Infection Management Committee, Debbie harnesses her infection management knowledge to tailor specific measures to the requirements of the medical emergency response team, the logistics team and the various programmes.

When Debbie knew that some colleagues were unable to get an oral thermometer during the COVID-19 situation, she took the initiative to purchase thermometers for them upon knowing any availability through fellow colleagues.

Grateful for Debbie’s strong situational leadership and concern for colleagues during this trying period, Director for Corporate Services, Tay Soong Kiang said: “Debbie always seeks to understand the challenges faced by the various divisions. As a result, she is able to work together with the Committee to come up with operationally feasible solutions to protect our clients, caregivers and colleagues.”

On behalf of the Board of Management, SPD Chief Executive Officer, Mr Abhimanyau Pal expressed his appreciation to the team: “The following colleagues have shown their tenacity in the face of the prolonged pandemic, and adapted to the ever-changing situation so that they can continue to provide quality service to the clients of SPD. Thank you for soldiering along with SPD through this challenging season.”

Kudos to our 41 colleagues for their dedication and professionalism!
