We are saddened by the passing of our former President, Mr Koh Nai Teck, PBM, on 26 July 2015.

Mr Koh joined SPD’s Board of Management in 1990 and was an active volunteer. He was elected as President of SPD in 2000, a position he held till 2004.

SPD grew under his leadership. The rehabilitation centre was established along with the Assistive Technology Centre and a fully accessible computer lab for people with physical disabilities. With him at the helm, more support was also extended to students with physical disabilities in mainstream schools. These included enrichment courses and scholarship schemes to help level the playing field for students with disabilities.

Mr Koh could see how technology would enrich and enable people with disabilities, and was the driving force behind the setting up of an IT training fund for people with disabilities.

His contribution to the disabled community through SPD earned him the title Pingat Bakti Masyarakat (PBM) which was conferred to him by the President of Singapore S R Nathan in 2003.

Until illness rendered him unable to contribute in 2010, Mr Koh Nai Teck was tireless in his voluntary efforts. He will be dearly missed.
