Many Came Together to Support SPD Flag Day 2019

About 950 SPD staff and volunteers braved the hot weather on 6 April to collect donations island-wide on SPD’s Flag Day. Thank you for your efforts!

About 950 SPD staff and volunteers braved the hot weather on 6 April to collect donations island-wide on SPD Flag Day.

Flag Day has been an annual fundraising event for SPD where all staff are mobilised alongside student and corporate volunteers to help raise funds for SPD’s programmes and services in aid of people with disabilities. It is also an opportunity to increase awareness of SPD and our cause among the public.

This year, the collection tin cans included a donation QR code so that those who preferred to donate through electronic means or did not carry cash could also donate conveniently.

Also, for the first time, a contest was introduced where participants stood a chance to win prizes, such as Gong Cha vouchers. Over 200 responses were received.

The saying “charity begins at home” took on a new meaning when some volunteers turned up with their family members and children to help. “My family had a good time volunteering at the SPD Flag Day and would like to participate in similar events in the future,” said one of the volunteers, Mark Khor, who brought his family.

Pooja Gupta, training officer from the Day Activity Centre whose daughters have been helping out for the last three Flag Days as well as other SPD events shared, “my daughters have been keen to be involved all along and I always encourage them to share their happiness.”

Speech therapist Alyssa Teo brought along her beloved pet dog to offer cuddles to donors who supported SPD Flag Day.
