SINGAPORE, 26 April 2025 – Close to 150 golfers from the IT and business communities teed off for a good cause at the SPD Charity Golf 2025 in support of persons with disabilities. Held at the Seletar Country Club yesterday, the event saw strong backing from corporate sponsors and, combined with the Tote Board Enhanced Fund-Raising Programme which provides a matching grant, is expected to bring in about $587,000 in total for SPD.
The tournament was graced by Mr Desmond Tan, Senior Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office, and brought together a passionate community of business leaders and golf enthusiasts who share SPD’s vision of building an inclusive society.
SPD, one of the largest and more established social service organisations in Singapore, supports over 11,000 persons with disabilities annually through over 20 SPD programmes and services. These range from early intervention, assistive technology and employment support services, to therapy and day care – empowering individuals to participate fully in school, work and community life.
Adding a heartwarming touch to the 18-hole tournament were two beneficiaries, Ms Jessica Wong Sim Yee and Mr Shin Cheng Chuah, who surprised the golfers with freshly-made waffles at one of the refreshment stops. Ms Wong and Mr Shin are currently undergoing food & beverage training at a school canteen through SPD’s Employment Support Programme, which prepares them for open employment.
The evening concluded with a post-game dinner featuring a silent auction of donated artworks and wines, as well as a fundraising song segment, both of which received enthusiastic support from attendees. Funds raised from the event will help SPD continue its work in supporting persons with disabilities in their journey towards independence and inclusion.
“We are deeply grateful to our golfers, sponsors and donors for believing in the potential of persons with disabilities,” said Mr Abhimanyau Pal, Chief Executive Officer of SPD. “Every contribution empowers persons with disabilities and those who may develop disabling conditions to take a step forward – towards education, employment and a fulfilling life. It is heartening to see the community come together in the spirit of giving, as we press on in our mission to ensure no one is left behind.”
