SPD is pleased to announce that Mdm Halimah Yacob, President of the Republic of Singapore, has accepted the invitation to become the charity’s patron.

President Halimah has long been acquainted with SPD and its cause through her work at the Ministry of Social and Family Development in 2012. More recently, she attended the SPD Education Programme Awards Presentation Ceremony in January as the Guest-of-Honour.

“This is indeed a great honour for us. With President Halimah as our Patron, we hope our on-going efforts to include people with disabilities would continue to gain traction among Singaporeans and policymakers. Her support will put us in a good stead to be a sector leader and better serve the interests and welfare of our clients and the special needs community,” said Ms Chia Yong Yong, President, SPD.

In SPD’s history spanning over 50 years, past patrons included Tan Sri Dr Runme, Founder and Chairman of Shaw Organisation (Singapore) and Mr Ch’ng Jit Koon, former Senior Minister of State for Community Development and Member of Parliament, with the last being the late president Dr Wee Kim Wee from 1998 to 2005.
