Dr Tony Tan, President of Singapore, conferred SPD the President’s Volunteerism & Philanthropy Awards (Non-Profit Organisation) in a ceremony held at the Shangri-la Hotel Singapore on 9 November. SPD executive director Mr Abhimanyau Pal (above, centre) accepted the award from Dr Tan on the organisation’s behalf.

The annual President’s Volunteerism & Philanthropy Awards honour those who have set benchmarks of excellence in encouraging the spirit of giving in Singapore. Into its fifth year and organised by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC), with support from the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and the National Council of Social Service (NCSS), the awards represent the highest honour for giving to the community in the arts, environment, social services, sports, education, healthcare or other worthy causes.

On receiving this award, Ms Chia Yong Yong, President of SPD said: “We are honoured to be a recipient of this prestigious award, and we want to share it with our donors and volunteers who have provided us their unwavering support in the form of time and money to ensure that we are able to carry out our mission to enable and empower individuals with disabilities – through over 20 programmes and services that we offer.”

With the award, we will continue to look into bringing about a higher level of volunteerism and philanthropy in Singapore. We also hope to provide a platform to encourage a culture of giving among Singaporeans, to give of their resources to help those in disadvantaged circumstances.
