It was a privilege for us to host President Tony Tan Keng Yam on 26 September as he visited the SPD Ability Centre as part of the President’s Challenge Volunteer Drive 2014.

It was an exciting day for many of the beneficiaries and trainees at SPD as Dr Tan toured and interacted with many of them at the Infocomm Accessibility Centre, Sheltered Workshop and Day Activity Centre.

Dr Tan then joined some trainees at the Microsoft YouthSpark Lab where a class on Microsoft Excel training was being conducted.

A group of SPD beneficiaries, who had been practising for weeks, performed a heartfelt rendition of ‘Amigos Para Siempre’ as Dr Tan made his way to the SPD Day Activity Centre. He later joined the clients in putting in the finishing touches to a piece of pencil shaving artwork together with some Microsoft volunteers.

Dr Tan made SPD’s new Transition Employment Programme his last stop and senior physiotherapist Pauline Koh gave an overview of how the programme helps young adults with spinal cord injuries integrate back into mainstream workforce.
