The 3rd Singapore Rehabilitation Conference was held from 27 to 29 March at the Singapore General Hospital. Themed ‘Rehabilitation in the Continuum of Care’, the programme was designed to be wide-ranging and comprehensive, covering the traditional broad fields of neurological and musculoskeletal rehabilitation, as well as on synergies in rehabilitation care, taking inter-professional collaboration across the various levels of rehabilitation services within acute hospitals, community hospitals, nursing homes and outpatient rehabilitation facilities.

A team of SPD staff was invited to the event to share their knowledge and expertise in the sector. Sarah Yong, clinical head for SPD’s Specialised Assistive Technology Centre, presented on the needs, challenges and utilisation of assistive technology in Singapore, a presentation that also won her the second prize in the ‘Best Poster Presentation’ competition. Physiotherapist Ethirajulu Mahalakshmi took third place in the same competition for her presentation on ‘Improving Speed and Endurance through Community Ambulation in Intermediate and Long Term Care Sector’. Social worker Jasmine Lee also presented SPD’s perspective on care integration at the ‘Inter-Professional Collaboration – New Synergies in Rehabilitation Care’ symposium while physiotherapist Karuppusamy Sridevi spoke about improving participation in people with mental health issues in a residential facility through physical activity.
