The “Breaking Barriers Virtual Run 2017” is here!

SPD is holding its inaugural Virtual Run this year, with the aims of raising funds in support of people with disabilities, to promote inclusion in Singapore and to raise awareness of SPD and its charitable causes.

In conjunction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December 2017, SPD has launched this initiative to allow the public to show their support for the disabled community and raise funds. It also presents an opportunity for people with or without disabilities to step out of their homes, break out of any mental barriers, and rise up to the challenge of a 10km run!

The Virtual Run allows you to run at your own convenience. Pick your time, pick your place, and start running!

“Virtual runs are novel and seem to be catching on in Singapore. The idea of running at their convenience will appeal to those with busy or unpredictable schedules. It also encourages people who are not avid runners to participate as they can complete the run over multiple sessions. This is also a new platform that we are tapping on to reach out for more support,” said Ms Helen Tay, Assistant Director of Resource Development, SPD.

More than 35 SPD staff signed up for the soft launch between 7 October and 20 October 2017 and covered over 360 km. Popular running places included MacRitchie Reservoir, Kallang Sports Hub and stadiums in heartlands such as Queenstown and Ang Mo Kio.
