SPD constantly looks to improve its service and care delivery, and takes pride in our people-centric approach in all that we do. Hence, we are proud to share that we are recipients of 13 Awards at the Community Care Excellence Awards 2022, and a Commendation Award at the ECDA Awards for Excellence in Early Childhood Development 2022.

Community Care Excellence Awards

SPD took home two Gold and 11 Silver awards at the Community Care Excellence Awards on 18 October which was graced by Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State for Health and Communications and Information.

Organised by the Agency for Integrated Care, the Awards recognise community care staff and teams who demonstrated exemplary service and commitment in delivering quality care to their clients.

A dedicated and fair supervisor

One of the Gold Award recipients is Tay Hwee Lin, senior manager of SPD Therapy Hub. Hwee Lin was commended for her commitment in supporting the therapists under her charge and the external partners that the Hub serves. As a leader, Hwee Lin is described as a “fair and patient supervisor” who is dedicated to supporting her team’s professional growth through mentorship.

She values the collaborations with external partners, often going the extra mile to understand and ensure that their needs are met. An occupational therapist by training, Hwee Lin had stepped up to take on clinical duties at partner organisations during the pandemic, so that their clients can continue to receive uninterrupted care.

A trusted and reliable team member

Another Gold Award recipient is Shahidah Lam, senior training officer at SPD Day Activity Centre. Always one to take the initiative to solve issues, Shahidah is a trusted team member that her colleagues rely on. During the COVID-19 situation, Shahidah remained collected as she adapted to the various changes that came their way and helped to prepare for the centre’s reopening after the Circuit Breaker. She also came up with diagrams to help the clients and the team to understand the guidelines.

Emotionally attuned to those whom she works with, Shahidah often offers a listening ear to her clients and fellow colleagues. Her concern for her colleagues showed especially during the pandemic situation as she reached out to those who were away from their families, or who were going through challenging situations, to ensure that they are well.

Heartiest congratulations to Hwee Lin, Shahidah and the other 11 colleagues!

ECDA Awards for Excellence in Early Childhood Development

Senior educational therapist Felicia Ng smiling for the camera, while holding the certificate and award

Our senior educational therapist Felicia Ng received the ECDA Award for Excellence in Early Childhood Development 2022 – Outstanding Early Childhood Professional Award (Commendation).

Organised by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA), the award recognises the achievements of exemplary infant or early years educators who expand the boundaries of professionalism and scale up the quality of their curriculum and pedagogical practices.

Under SPD’s Development Support and Learning Support programme, Felicia works closely with preschool educators, principals, and parents to support the learning needs of children with development needs. Besides providing intervention to children, Felicia believes strongly in empowering the ecosystem supporting the children to achieve the best outcomes. She stepped up to be one of the key trainers in SPD to support the continuing education for educators.

“It has been a privilege to work with Felicia since she joined SPD. Her strong belief in inclusion and desire to help children with developmental needs have consistently impressed me,” said Winnie Lim, assistant director for SPD’s Children Services.

“This award goes a long way in recognising her efforts and reaffirms her dedication in supporting children with developmental needs in the early childhood setting.”

Our heartiest congratulations to Felicia for her achievements!
