SPD Conferred Charity Transparency Award for the Second Year

SPD received the Charity Transparency Award (CTA) from Ms Yeoh Chee Yan, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, at the Charity Transparency Awards Ceremony on 15 November 2017. The ceremony was held at the Singapore Marriot Tang Plaza Hotel.

This is the second year running that SPD is receiving this award since its introduction in 2016.

The CTA is an initiative by the Charity Council to encourage good governance and disclosure practices amongst organisations in the charity sector. The award aims to push organisations towards a culture of accountability. SPD was one of those being honoured with the award this year.

“In a way, winning this award affirms the efforts that we have put in to ensure accountability to our stakeholders such as donors, volunteers and clients. We hope it also assures them that they have rightly placed their trust in an organisation that uses its resources responsibly,” said Mr Abhimanyau Pal, Executive Director, SPD, who received the award from Ms Yeoh.

“Such awards and recognition will encourage charities to keep striving for higher standards of governance and transparency, which will increase public confidence and have a positive effect on the sector in the long run,” he added.

The Charity Transparency Framework (CTF) serves to help charities enhance their governance practices. It also serves as a public education tool for charities and the public by highlighting key areas of disclosure that will aid in informed giving. Thus, the CTF is a scorecard for charities’ self-assessment purposes, and is by no means mandatory.

SPD took guidance from the CTF for its disclosure practices and make information available to the public by publishing them on its website and in annual reports.

Apart from receiving the Charity Transparency Award this year, SPD was also the recipient of the Charity Council’s inaugural Charity Governance Award in 2012, and again in 2016.

SPD looks forward to continue presenting its best to the public, and strengthening the trust between the organisation and its stakeholders.
