To encourage living healthily and to ensure that our staff as well as our clients and their caregivers are protected in a clean air environment, SPD’s management decided to implement a no-smoking policy at its premises.

From 1 July, smoking within the premises of the SPD Ability Centre at Tiong Bahru is not allowed. Preparations for the change started in Mar 2013 to inform and support those who would be affected. Besides putting up notices at the centre, letters were sent to clients and their caregivers to inform them of the impending rules.

Ms Susan Teo, assistant manager of the Day Activity Centre, together with a few staff co-ordinated the effort. They held dialogues with staff, clients and vendors who are located at SPD to help them make the transition to a no-smoking environment easier.

“They know that our intention for introducing a smoke-free environment to SPD is for the good of everyone, so they have been supportive and co-operative,” said Ms Teo.

We thank everyone for their co-operation and for helping us to implement this policy successfully.
