The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is an international human rights treaty of the United Nations intended to protect the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities.

SPD President Ms Chia Yong Yong, was at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City in the week of 8 June to attend the 8th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Ms Chia first moderated a side event “Women with Disabilities” held on 9 June which aimed to strengthen the voice of women and girls with disabilities in policy-dialogues at global, regional and national levels. Thereafter, she was a panelist at the “Forum on Disability and Development” on 11 June to exchange ideas and discuss how urban development should be more inclusive.

We are heartened by the commitment of leaders and policymakers around the world to build nations that are disability-inclusive.
