Shop for a Uniqlo Tee Designed by Diroy
The Uniqlo Street Tales is an SG50 initiative that aims to share the stories and memories that make us uniquely Singaporeans. Uniqlo, the Japanese fashion giant, collaborated with local artists and businesses to bring their stories to life through 50 exclusive Uniqlo t-shirt designs. One of the designs selected by Uniqlo is by our very own SPD Youth Aspiration Award 2015 recipient Mohammed Diroy!

Diroy, together with representatives from SPD, were invited to the Uniqlo outlet at Bugis+ to witness the launch of the UTme! printing service and the unveiling of the 50 designed t-shirts. It was a proud moment for us when Diroy’s design titled “Becoming Me. Accepting Me.” was unveiled.

Explaining the rationale behind his design, Diroy, who has Dwarfism, said: “It is about how I’ve come to accept my disability; that it is nothing to be ashamed of. It was a long and painful journey to have finally arrived at this acceptance. In the past, I hated being different but now art makes me want to be as different as possible. Singapore is my country, my present, my future, my life, my home – not just somewhere that I happen to be born in. It’s the place where I became myself. My heart is so full of pride and gratitude for everyone who has given me so much support throughout this journey.” You can view Diroy’s design here.

To purchase this specially-designed t-shirt, visit Uniqlo’s outlet at Bugis+ between now and 10 August and select Diroy’s design from the UTme! machine. Net proceeds will go to SPD through Community Chest, and the funds raised will also be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Government under the Care & Share Movement.

‘Have A Sweet Day’ on Us!
Have A Sweet Day’ is back for the second year!

From 1 July to 30 September 2015, SPD volunteers will take to the streets with trays of colourful lollipops. Approach them with a donation of $2 or more and let us brighten up your day with a lolly!

Take time to snap some photographs with your lollies and post them on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag ‪#‎HaveASweetDaySG‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ to spread the love.

We are also looking for passionate volunteers to help with the street collection. Giving a few hours of your time, whether as a team with your family, friends or colleagues or on your own, you will be helping SPD raise the much-needed funds to keep our services running for people with disabilities under our care and provide subsidies for those who are unable to pay for the service(s). Contact Ms Alice Hue via e-mail or 6579 0708 for more details.
