Stage, TV And Radio Personalities Call For Support Of The Physically Disabled In SPD’s First TV Charity Show

Singapore, 4 July 2007 – The Society for the Physically Disabled’s (SPD) first TV charity show on 15 July will see stage, TV and radio personalities join in to call for support of physically disabled people.

Highlights include performances by Hong Kong’s King of CantoPop, Alan Tam (谭咏麟), and music maestros from Taiwan, Tong An Ge (童安格Angus Tong) and Zhou Zhi Ping (周治平Steve Chow), as well as 刘三姐, Huang Wan Qiu (黄婉秋), from China. The show will also feature Yang En Dian (杨恩典), an acclaimed mouth and foot painter from Taiwan who is physically disabled, who will be teaming up with local disabled artist Lee Soo Chee (李淑芝) for a special performance involving volunteers from SPD’s corporate partners.

MediaCorp artistes such as Constance Song, Ong Ai Leng, Michelle Chia and Christopher Lee will be involved in the show. They will be joined by the contestants of Campus Superstar, Milu Bing (迷路兵) as well as DJs from LOVE97.2FM who will be putting up a Chinese crosstalk performance.

There will be no stunts performed during the show hosted by Quan Yi Fong (权怡风) and Huang Zi Jiao (黄子佼) from Taiwan, and graced by Mr Abdullah Tarmugi, Speaker of Parliament. Instead, the SPD Charity Show will boast the first mini musical staged in a TV charity show. Toy Factory Productions, the theatre group staging Big Fool Lee, will be condensing its play into a mini musical for a good cause. The performance is about legendary storyteller, Lei Dai Soh, who left an impact on many generations in Singapore with his exceptional charisma.

The SPD Charity Show will be broadcast live on 15 July 2007 over Channel 8 at 7pm, with a repeat telecast on 22 July 2007 at 3pm. It is a platform used to raise funds for SPD, as well as to share the challenges, hopes and abilities of physically disabled people. SPD hopes to raise $3.5 million out of the $5 million target for the year. This helps to fund the programmes and services it conducts for the rising number of clients it is serving.
