Dr Claire Tan is a Branding and Communications Consultant with more than two decades of communication experience traversing academe, media, government, corporate training, and non-profit.

In her decade-long tenure with the Singapore Government, Dr Tan handled diverse portfolios covering communications research, press relations, marketing communications, social media marketing, and nation/country branding. She was the first civilian to be appointed Director of Public Communications and Press Secretary in Singapore’s Ministry of Defence in 2014.

In her last appointment with the Government, Dr Tan was the Director of the Singapore (SG) Brand Office holding concurrent appointment as Director of the National Marketing Office, both Offices residing at the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI). She was responsible for setting up both Offices in 2019 and 2017 respectively – an endeavour that marks the first time the Singapore Government sets up entities to specifically focus on the marketing and promotion of the Brand of Singapore, catering both to local and international audiences.

Apart from her Government experience, Dr Tan was a corporate trainer at one of Singapore’s largest commercial banks, served as adjunct teaching faculty at the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore (NTU), and also teaches at the Singapore Management University (SMU) Academy.

Dr Tan currently works with a diverse group of creative / advertising / media agencies, corporate consultancies, and research houses. Outside work, she volunteers at Make-A-Wish Singapore as a Board Director chairing its Marketing Communications Committee. In her free time, Dr Tan turns recyclable coffee capsules into bespoke jewelry. She also enjoys writing and shares her take on life in her blog (docclairever.wordpress.com). Dr Tan holds a PhD in Communications from the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA.
