45-year-old Tan Li Li, a wheelchair user who has polio, has been a craftsman at SPD’s Sheltered Workshop since 1999. She works as part of a team that creates notebooks and lifestyle gifts by hand and from scratch. This supported employment programme helps her to be self-reliant and financially independent.

Li Li joined the other craftsmen with disabilities from the Sheltered Workshop last Saturday to do their bit to raise funds for SPD through the SPD Flag Day. The generosity of passers-by at Jurong East MRT station kept Li Li going and she was happy when she handed in four filled-up donation tins at the end of the day.

More than 1,600 SPD staff and volunteers went on an island-wide street collection for the SPD Flag Day 2016 on 9 April. More than $90,000 was raised that day to keep SPD’s programmes and services running for people with special needs and provide subsidies for those who are unable to pay for the service(s) that they receive.

We would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all our volunteers, donors and supporters for giving us your support and for this opportunity to share with Singaporeans what we do.
