The wet and gloomy weather last Saturday (8 April) may have discouraged many from stepping out of their homes. However, it did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the 1,000 SPD Flag Day 2017 fundraisers who went on an island-wide street collection in aid of people with disabilities.

SPD staff and clients, along with volunteers from corporate partners and students, pulled in more than $71,000 that day.

The SPD Flag Day is one of the many ways from which we raise funds. The money raised play an important part in keeping SPD’s programmes and services running for people with special needs and provide subsidies for those who are unable to pay for the service(s) that they receive.

For first-time volunteers Lillian Tan and Amanda Tan, the event became a friends’ bonding event as they brought along their daughters to be a part of this fundraiser. The five of them were at the Ang Mo Kio area for a half-day stint.

“It can be quite tiring to seek donations from passers-by for four hours straight but it’s definitely fulfilling and meaningful for the girls as they know they are doing their part for people with disabilities,” said Lillian of her experience.

We would like to say a big ‘THANK YOU’ to all our volunteers, donors and supporters for giving us your support and for this opportunity to share with Singaporeans what we do.
