The third batch of IAC Certificate in Office Skills (ICOS) trainees, along with their caregivers, attended the pre-course Caregivers’ Briefing on the morning of 7 July. It was to mark the start of a six-month training programme for 13 new trainees. They and their caregivers were brought on a familiarity tour of the SPD Ability Centre and to get a better understanding of the training programme.

The ICOS is a vocational training programme set up to enhance the employability of people with disabilities through courses aiming to provide skills for administrative positions. The job skills and soft skills training will be useful for many of the trainees who have never worked in an office environment before and who aim to join the mainstream workforce.

“I joined ICOS to learn how to use the computer and software such as Microsoft Office. I would love to work in an office,” said Sarannia Joseph Naomi who has hearing impairment.

Trainees who complete the ICOS training will also have an opportunity to take up internships at companies through SPD’s Employment Support Programme. For more information on ICOS, please visit www.iacentre.org.sg/courses/certificate-in-office-skills/.
