Three newly-minted scholars were awarded the Asia Pacific Breweries (APB) Foundation Scholarship for Persons with Disabilities at SPD’s headquarters at Tiong Bahru on 26 September 2017.

Guest-of-Honour Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for Social and Family Development, presented the awards to the trio – Kristina Liu, Joshua Tseng and Lee Ci En – who conquered obstacles after obstacles to be where they are today.

“Through these scholarships, more students with disabilities and with the potential to achieve more are given a chance to do so and, in turn, contribute to society in ways that they are able to,”

said Mr Lee in his speech.

Indeed, through the APB Foundation Scholarship programme, many students with disabilities have gone on to accomplish great things. Daniel Seah, one of the ex-recipients of the APB Foundation Scholarship, is now working as a tax associate at accounting firm Ernst and Young. Other scholars include Paralympian Yip Pin Xiu and Lisa Ong, who is now an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Lisa, who has hearing impairment, performed on the cello at the ceremony.

The scholars facilitated a disability simulation activity, which the staff enjoyed

When asked how they felt about receiving the scholarship, we were met with smiles from all of the scholars, who went on to express their delight and gratitude.

“I’m honored and thankful to receive this award and the opportunities that it brings,” Lee Ci En, one of the scholars this year said.

We wish each of them a glorious and successful future, and we look forward to seeing them reach greater heights and scale new peaks. This is just the beginning of much more to come.
