Our volunteers often brighten up our clients’ days and leave a lasting impression on the canvas of their lives. This gave us the idea to organise an art workshop for our volunteers during our quarterly networking session on 1 July.

Close to 30 volunteers attended the workshop conducted by art co-ordinators from the Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH) Creative Hub. Aimed at helping individuals develop social and rapport building skills in a fun and creative environment, the workshop also helps participants discover and understand themselves and their peers at a more personal level.

The morning started with the group painting activity “Colourful Mess” which served as an ice-breaker. A huge hand-painted art piece was created and stories told and exchanged through art and painting.

Ms Hailey Yew, who volunteers at SPD’s Sheltered Workshop with her colleagues on a regular basis, was pleased with the camaraderie built with the others at the workshop: “I love the enthusiasm from the trainers and fellow volunteers. It was unexpectedly fun!” she said.
