Assistive Technology Services

Overview

Technology is a powerful enabler for people with disabilities. With the help of assistive technology (AT), many had been able to overcome their day-to-day challenges and become fully-integrated into all aspects of community living. We advocate the use of AT through our Specialised Assistive Technology Centre (Specialised ATC) which provides the following services:

  • AT assessment (download our Referral Form)
  • Training on use of AT devices (look out for training courses periodically conducted by the Specialised ATC in SPD Events)
  • Trial/Loan of Devices from AT Loan Library
  • Onsite Assessment: e.g. School/Workplace/Home
  • Technical support (virtual or in-person; please contact us for more information)
  • Sales co-ordination support for AT devices (please contact us for more information)
  • Prescription of suitable AT devices and Assistive Technology Fund application (where applicable)

Introduction to AAC

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) plays an important role for such individuals as it can provide a way for effective sharing of thoughts and ideas. Complete this form to receive a downloadable document.

Modelling or Aided Language Stimulation

The Specialised ATC has collaborated with several families and professionals to shape two self-learning manuals. The manuals were developed and tested over a period of 4 years to provide comprehensive guidance, practice and reflection on use of the skill of Modelling or Aided Language Stimulation. Complete this form to receive the downloadable documents.

Alert: Beware of Fraudulent Payment Requests Made in SPD’s Name

SPD has been alerted to cases involving job scams where scammers have used SPD’s name to instruct individuals to transfer money.

Please remain vigilant. SPD does not authorise individuals to request or collect money on our behalf through such means. If you receive a suspicious request or are unsure whether it is genuine, please verify it directly with SPD by calling our general line at 6579 0700. Alternatively, you can call the ScamShield Hotline at 1799 before taking any action.

If you believe you may have fallen victim to a scam, please contact your bank immediately and make a police report.

SPD takes such matters seriously and we constantly review the necessary safeguards to protect the public and our supporters. Please be assured that legitimate donations and payments made through SPD’s official website and authorised platforms remain unaffected.
