A spinal cord injury left Mr Tan Hung Bak with weakness in his legs and lower trunk, resulting in him having to use a wheelchair to ambulate. However, the 56-year-old is determined to not let his condition disrupt his life and is motivated to resume his daily activities, one of which is driving.
Mr Tan worked with the therapists at SPD’s Transition to Employment (TTE) to set meaningful recovery goals, strengthen himself and work on transferring to and from his wheelchair. He has since gotten back in the driver’s seat, and takes pride in driving himself for weekly check-ups, as well as ferrying his wife and daughter to different venues.
Find out more about Mr Tan’s journey back to the road in this episode of the “Have a SPlenDid Day” series.
The “Have a SPlenDid Day” series shares the changes or adaptations persons with different abilities make in their everyday lives.
