Care for the Disabled Programme

Singapore, 1 August 2001 – Despite the economic slowdown, a wholesale and import company in consumer products has pledged a minimum of $50,000 towards The Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) from its “Care for the Disabled” Programme from 1 August 2001 to 31 October 2001.

Tristar Network will be marketing selected merchandise products from accessories to perfumes, souvenirs and toys at $10.00 a piece to corporate businesses, offices and HDB flats, with 70% of all sales proceeds to SPD. Tristar Network staff will promote this programme on top of their normal office routine as part of their community voluntary effort.

Mr Abdullah Bin Arshad, Managing Director of Tristar Network said, ” The Care for the Disabled Programme is the first charity project that we have undertaken. We hope the corporate pledge and company-driven effort will inspire our staff to continue their involvement as volunteers even after the Programme ends.”

Mr Loke Ho Yong, Executive Director of the Society for the Physically Disabled, added, ” It is very encouraging to see small medium size companies rallying to support charity during this period of economic slowdown. By initiating such a project to raise funds for people with disabilities, Tristar Network is indeed an exemplary model of a socially responsible corporate citizen in our community. I am also moved that the company has rallied all its staff to volunteer to make a difference to the lives of people with disabilities.”

During the promotion period, Tristar Network will assign a customer service department to handle any queries the public may have about the fund-raising project. The company will also distribute brochures to the public to allow them to have a better understanding of the programmes and services that SPD run for the disabled.
