Singapore, 26 July 2024 – In conjunction with its 60^th anniversary, SPD held its biggest charity golf tournament at Orchid Country Club yesterday, raising about $544,000 with the support of 176 golfers with further matching from the Tote Board Enhanced Fund-Raising Programme.

For the first time, the 18-hole shot-gun tournament was played over three golf courses, with two novelty games organised to solicit more donations for this fundraiser. Guests were also invited to try out specially modified golf clubs to learn about the different impairments faced by people with disabilities.

Speaker of Parliament Mr Seah Kian Peng, who graced the event as Guest-of-Honour, took to the stage at the after-game dinner and belted out an evergreen song – Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” which contributed to the overall funds raised.

Funds raised from the SPD Charity Golf 2024 will support the programmes that SPD offers to enable and empower persons with disabilities or who may develop disabling conditions. Proceeds from two special golf flights, bought by Asia Pacific Breweries (APB) Foundation and Hitachi Vantara, will go towards providing healthy meals to adults with disabilities at the SPD Day Activity Centre.
