SINGAPORE, 25 April 2016 – SPD, a voluntary welfare organisation that supports people with disabilities, organised its first charity golf tournament last Friday at the Raffles Country Club with strong support from the business community.

Close to 30 companies came together to raise more than $240,000 through sponsorship of golf flights and donations. The funds raised will go towards funding SPD’s programmes and services to benefit people with disabilities. Guest-of-Honour, Minister for Manpower and Member of Parliament for East Coast GRC, Mr Lim Swee Say, led the tee-off with 106 golfers in the 27-flight event.

SPD President Ms Chia Yong Yong said, “We are very happy that SPD’s maiden charity golf tournament is a successful one. We are greatly heartened with the support of our participants and donors and are grateful to all of them for believing in our mission of developing the potential of people with disabilities and enabling them to be self-reliant and independent.”

At the dinner, she also thanked Organising Committee Chairman Mr Eric Low and his team comprising Mr Tan Soo Nan, Mr Joe Dorai, Mr Godfrey Robert, Mr Alvin Seck, Mr Eric Teoh, and Mr Yeo Teck Guan, for their help in organising the fundraiser.
