SPD June Charity Bake Sale 2022

The SPD Charity Bake Sale is back! 23 homebakers and cafes have come together to raise funds for SPD and to make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities.

A minimum 20% of their sales proceeds received through this bake sale will be donated to SPD. You can place your order between 23 May to 30 June 2022.

A Charity Bake Sale that Celebrates Abilities

This year, for the first time, we are working with home bakers with different abilities; including a one-handed baker (OHBaker), a stroke survivor (Ally’s Gourmet), an elderly kueh-maker (Joo’s Kueh) and one of our scholarship recipients who has scoliosis, bow legs and restrictive lung disease which affects her breathing (petitebrew.bakes).

Enjoy delicious bakes and learn about people with disabilities

As part of our public education efforts, you will receive a simplified communication board (with instructions on how to use it) used by people with speech impairment and videos of our beneficiaries.

We hope that the communication board and videos will provide you with a better understanding of the challenges faced by people with disabilities. For those with children, it can serve as a bonding activity for you and your child/children to create greater awareness of people who are differently-abled.

Arttic Collections has garnered the support of 12 local and overseas artists to raise funds for SPD and to make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities so that they can be more self-reliant and independent. As we celebrate the start of 2022, we are heartened to have Arttic Collections and all the esteemed artists join us in building an inclusive society so that everyone, regardless of abilities, are a part of.

The artworks are available in various mediums including oil and acrylic on canvas, watercolor, Chinese ink painting and calligraphy, with styles ranging from traditional to contemporary. Limited edition Hongbao packets are also available for purchase at $88 for two packs (8 in a pack).

*70% of the sales proceeds will be donated to SPD to provide subsidised day care for persons with severe disabilities from low-income households and be eligible for tax-deduction of 2.5 times the donation amount

Arttic Collections is founded by a group of artists who believes in promoting Arts by sharing good local artworks to a wide-ranging audience who appreciates the joy of art. The artworks are the creations of locally based artists who works on a wide range of mediums, ranging from traditional to contemporary medium, ink & rice paper to oil on canvas, modern paintings to Chinese calligraphy, etc.

Following the success of our 1^st virtual run last year with 3,378 participants covering a total distance of 118,208km, we are doing another virtual edition of the SPD Ability Walk & Run again this year. This virtual event will be held from 20^th November to 3^rd December 2021, in conjunction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD).

Last year was a challenging and difficult year for everyone, and even more for persons with disabilities who already face challenges in their daily lives. The impact of the pandemic has made it even more difficult for them and their caregivers. Please join us in supporting persons with disabilities by participating in SPD Ability Walk & Run 2021 and donating generously to support the PWDs in our communities.

Give and/or Raise Funds

In good and bad times, vulnerable groups such as PWDs require support from SPD’s programmes and services. The impact of COVID-19 on the economy may extend for a long while, and funds are needed to keep the much-needed programmes and services going.

A donation is the most direct support you could offer, and any amount donated would go a long way in helping our beneficiaries. For instance, every $20 you give will provide lunch for a week for one person with disabilities receiving day care at SPD. You can make a donation here.

My SPD Experience

Every year, SPD conducts several physical events to raise funds to help people with disabilities of all ages maximise their potential and integrate them into mainstream society.

Since COVID-19 started, many of our events were cancelled and volunteering opportunities were also greatly reduced. Where possible, we pivoted and moved our events online. Because of this, we did not have many opportunities to engage or meet with you physically even to this day. We miss you and really hope to be able to see you in person again very soon.

If you have been a part of SPD in any way … as an  event participant, a volunteer, a workshop attendee etc we hope that you can take  time to set up a personal fundraising page to share your SPD experience and encourage others to donate and support our cause. We believe that stories of personal experiences are powerful and when shared, it will help others better understand SPD and how everyone can play a part in making a difference to the lives of people with disabilities.

If you do not know us yet but are keen to set up your own fundraising page, you may consider sharing about your experience on interacting with people with disabilities, your thoughts on why you support SPD or even your personal story on being a person with disabilities.

This course aims to provide educators with an overview of the common learning difficulties faced by children in mainstream pre-schools. Participants will also learn strategies to help them support the learning needs of these children in the classroom effectively.

This training will cover four domains in Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Literacy Support and Educational Psychology. Each domain will be taught by experienced professionals who will share insights of how the various learning difficulties can be identified, strategies to promote learning and the availability of community support in Singapore.

Date/Time: 17, 19 and 26 February 2021 (3 days), 9am to 6pm

Location: Online via Zoom

Target audience: All pre-school educators (from beginning teachers, centre leaders, cluster principals, etc) with L2 ECDA certification.

SPD Ability Walk & Run is back, with a twist! Instead of a single-day event, we are holding the event virtually over a 2-week period from 1 to 14 December 2020.

While the pandemic has forced us to put our physical event on hold, but nothing can stop us from showing people with disabilities that they are not alone, and they will not be denied the help that they need. So, come join us in this SPD Ability Walk & Run 2020 – Virtual Edition.  Walk, run and give generously to support persons with disabilities in our communities.

This event is also held in conjunction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on 3 December 2020. Let’s all in our own ways do our part so that persons with disabilities can have equal opportunities to learn, work and live like everyone else, especially during these tough times.

In good and bad times, vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities require support from SPD’s programmes and services. The impact of COVID-19 on the economy may extend for a long while, and funds are needed to keep the much-needed programmes and services going.

A donation is the most direct support you could offer, and any amount donated would go a long way in helping our beneficiaries. For instance, every $20 you give will provide meals over two days for one person with disabilities receiving day care. You could make a donation here.

As an individual or a team, you could also set up your own online fundraising campaign via www.giving.sg. Share your campaign on your social media and rally your family and friends to support your efforts. We will be giving our top fundraisers limited edition masks and name card holders specially made by our beneficiaries.

SPD Charity Bake Sale 2020 

This December, a group of home bakers are coming together to raise funds for SPD and to make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities.

Each baker will donate 20% of their sale proceeds to SPD for all orders with collection/delivery on 27 December 2020. You can place your order between 20 Nov to 13 Dec 2020. Note: Orders can only be self-collected / delivered on 27 Dec 2020.
