Overview

SPD Ability Walk and Run 2019 is the 4th walk that SPD is organising to raise funds in aid of its programmes and services. They comprise of therapy, vocational skills training, assistive technology, early intervention, day care, employment and educational & social support that enable and empower people with disabilities to be independent and self-reliant. All funds raised will be channelled to help over 9,500 people with disabilities access the programmes and services offered at SPD.

This event also aims to provide an opportunity for everyone of different abilities to interact together and serves to promote inclusion and raise awareness of disabilities. There will also be a post-event carnival where participants can enjoy food, games, activities, sports try-out and disability simulation activities.

Participants who have signed up for the event will receive an event t-shirt, towel and drawstring bag. This year, we will be introducing a 5km fun run category in addition to the usual 3km fun walk, with the intention of attracting leisure runners to join in this meaningful event.

Participants enjoy a scenic route through the Singapore River from Boat Quay to Clarke Quay. Run participants also get a glimpse of Robertson Quay as well as the majestic Merlion.

Event Highlights

This year, not only are we bringing back the popular carnival games, we will also be introducing new activities to turn up the fun factor. That’s not all, we will be introducing a 5km fun run category with the intention of attracting more participants.

What is the event SPD Ability Walk & Run 2019 all about?

How do I sign up for SPD Ability Walk & Run 2019?

You can sign up online, at any of the following SPD Centres or via mail.

What is the distance of the walk?

The full walk distance is 3km and the fun run is slightly longer at 5km

Where is the start and finish points?

The start point is at the promenade area next to Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) and participants will end at the main entrance of ACM.

Are there meals provided for the participants?

Meals are not provided. However, there will be some food and drinks to be given away to participants at the carnival booths, whilst stocks last.

How do I get there?

By Car
Drivers can reach the Asian Civilisations Museum via a road behind Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall, off Fullerton Road near Anderson Bridge.

By Train
The Asian Civilisations Museum is a 5-minute walk from Raffles Place MRT station (Exit H).

By Bus
The Asian Civilisations Museum is a 2-minute walk from the Fullerton Square bus stop (03011), via bus services 10, 10e, 57, 70, 75, 100, 107, 128, 130, 131, 162, 167, 196, 196e, 700, 850E, 868, 951E, and 971E.

Are there parking lots available?

Public parking is available at the basement car park of the New Parliament House, at Six Battery Road and at One Fullerton across from the Fullerton Hotel.

What should I bring to the event?

Participants are strongly encouraged to bring along an umbrella/poncho in case of light rain.

Will there be baggage deposit services?

No, there is no baggage deposit service provided at the event site.

What happens if there is wet weather or haze on the event day?

Participants are strongly encouraged to monitor SPD Website or SPD Facebook for the latest updates on the event. Organiser will make decisions about the Walk based on the severity of the weather, in view of your safety.

Should there be heavy rain during the walk, participants are advised to proceed to the nearest shelters (e.g. HDB flats’ void decks, underneath bridge, pavilions, etc).

Should there be haze on the day, measures will be taken according to the haze guidelines by NEA. Please refer to this link for more details. Organisers will constantly monitor the 3-hour PSI levels and advise participants to move indoors if the PSI levels exceed 100. Organisers will exercise their discretion in allowing the event to continue if PSI levels falls within the acceptable range.

Participants are strongly encouraged to bring along their own wet weather tools as well as face mask for some form of protection from the haze.

There will be no refunds of registration fees due to inclement weather conditions.

Advisory on Zika virus

Organiser is closely monitoring the Zika virus situation, and will make corresponding decisions about the Walk based on the advisory provided by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in view of the safety of all participants.

Participants are strongly encouraged to take the following appropriate precautions on the event date: to put on adequate mosquito repellent and to wear long, covered clothing (if deemed necessary).
