Ice breaking before the adventure!
The kids from the SPD Education Programme came to be aware of the heritage of Tiong Bahru when they explored the area with volunteers from the Freedom Adventure Club (FAC) on 5 October.
The neighbourhood adventure was organised as part of a Children’s Day celebration this year. The youngsters were brought to different parts of the estate including many interesting landmarks such as the historical 1939 air raid shelters and Tiong Bahru Market where they had to work in their teams to complete various tasks.
“Planning and conducting the Children’s Day celebration for the youths of SPD has been extremely fun. The youths really like our amazing race, and the rich heritage of the Tiong Bahru estate where we had the race provided an interesting backdrop for our stations and games. We are happy to be able to make this day extra special for them” said Chng Chin Soon, a FAC leader.
“I enjoy meeting my friends from SPD during such outings. The games were fun and I look forward to the next school holiday where I can join in these exciting activities again,” said 14-year-old Haziq.
