With the support of Land Transport Authority (LTA), our Day Activity Centre (DAC) held its inaugural Family Day at the Jurong Bird Park on 11 August 2017. The event served to acknowledge and celebrate all who form the close-knitted DAC family, including clients, caregivers, staff and volunteers. It also provided a platform to appreciate the invaluable part they play in the ecosystem of support network for our clients.

Individual volunteers as well as close to 40 from LTA and SAGE Foundation came together to ensure the event ran smoothly for 130 participants.

Despite the hilly terrain, the troupers pressed on from one exhibit to another, generating much laughter and building camaraderie along the walking tour. Needless to say, new bonds were forged along the way.

“It’s just so heart-warming to see the beneficiaries so excited and cheerful throughout the trip. No matter how exhausting the excursion is, once you see the smile and hear the laughter from them, all the fatigue is gone! Even the stress from my work is gone too!”

said Clement Yeo, a volunteer from LTA.

The event also provided an opportunity for many families to go on an outing with their children. One of them was the family of Mdm Ong Kwee Hoon, whose two children Kin Yong and Zi Qi attend the DAC.

“My husband and I were both very happy that we could go to the Jurong Bird Park with Kin Yong and Zi Qi. If not for this arrangement, to bring the two of them there on our own would have been much more difficult. We could also enjoy having a meal together there. We thank the DAC for giving us this opportunity to spend time as a family outdoors and we hope for more in the future,” said Mdm Ong.

LTA has been a long standing supporter of SPD and we thank them for sponsoring the event and making it memorable for all those who participated.

“The volunteers were a great bunch and so were the donors and sponsors whom were present. Many hands came in to make this outing possible and a success, and we hope to continue leveraging such partnerships in future,” said Gary Chia, assistant director, Adult & Elderly Services.
