SPD celebrated the dedication and selflessness of volunteers at the annual SPD Volunteer Appreciation session held at the Cathay Cineleisure Orchard on 6 December. Close to 130 volunteers who attended the exclusive event were treated to a hearty breakfast before they were ushered into the movie hall for the sneak preview of Walt Disney Picture’s “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day”.

“We are fortunate to have a pool of very dedicated volunteers who give their time regularly to help our clients and sometimes provide backend support at our office whenever we need an extra pair of helping hands. An occasion like this gives us the opportunity to express our deepest gratitude,” said Ms Alice Hue, senior executive of Resource Development, SPD.

One volunteer who attended the event was the sprightly 83-year-old Madam Molly Ng who has been an SPD volunteer for the past 10 years. A familiar face at the SPD Day Activity Centre (DAC), Molly visits the centre every fortnight with her friends from the Singapore Soka Association who volunteers alongside her. Easily recognisable with her distinctive silver mane, she would sing and do simple exercises whilst interacting with the DAC clients.
